Sprays, drops, mouthwashes, gum, and mints are good for freshening breath, but if the ultimate problem is more than just a little doggie breath, then the “quick fix” may not be for you. Your vet should do a thorough check of your dog’s teeth at each visit and inform you if there is a problem. If not done already, at the first sign of tarter buildup you should begin a dental regime that works for both you and your dog. This will prevent plaque buildup which will eventually lead to tooth decay or gum disease.

Just like humans, dogs need to have their teeth taken care of to prevent chronic halitosis or serious doggie breath. If brushing your dog’s teeth is an absolutely impossible task, give your dog hard toys to chew, such as KONG® dental sticks, or N-Bones® mint flavored bones to scrape away tartar and plaque before it becomes a problem. Some of these products will even give you the quick fresh breath you long for while helping your dog’s teeth stay clean.
